The sumptuous Sausage Gravy and Biscuit comes from our friends at The Twelve Oaks Bed & Breakfast in Covington, GA, an award-winning antebellum mansion listed on the National Register of Historic Places that features luxury accommodations with modern amenities, gorgeous grounds, a pool, a pond, and much more. “This is one of our guest favorites!” reveals innkeeper Nicole Greer. “Now everyone can enjoy our famous sausage gravy and biscuits year-round. This sausage gravy is delicious, and with a touch of cayenne pepper, is just spicy enough to wake you up in the morning.”
- 1 lb. sausage
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups cream
- 2 Tb. butter
- Cayenne pepper
- Garlic salt
- Pepper
- We use farm fresh sausage and brown the sausage in skillet.
- While cooking, add black pepper and garlic salt.
- Stir in flour.
- Then stir in 2 1/2 cups liquid (1/2 cup of milk and 2 cups cream).
- Let mixture thicken. You can thin with milk or cream if becomes too thick.
- Add more salt and pepper to taste.
- Add a dash of cayenne pepper.
- Serve with homemade biscuits.
- This recipe is special because we use cream instead of milk, which makes it smoother, and also a little cayenne pepper. The gravy tends to separate when it’s been sitting for 10-plus minutes, so just add a little more cream and heat it up. It will reconstitute and be creamy again.
