However, choosing the right equipment can be harder than you think. Some of the biggest items are obvious but many of the smaller items are often overlooked. Unfortunately these items are the ones that can make a big difference to the smooth running of your new business.
Consider this, you invest in a new dishwasher but fail to order the detergent for the machine. Having already released additional staff you have dishes to do and no way to do them automatically! That’s why you need a good contact for washing and cafeteria supplies; this will help to ensure you can rectify any issue quickly.
It’s a good idea to think about the equipment you need for your new restaurant before you work out your budgets; this will ensure you know exactly how much money or finance you really need.
Cookers
You’re going to need an oven of some description along with a fryer; microwave, griddle top and perhaps even a steamer.
Consider what food you’ll be offering on your restaurant and make sure you have the means to cook them from scratch.
Refrigerators
To store food you need cupboard space, refrigerators and freezers. You’ll need to pay carefully attention to handling and storing food as well as verifying everything is within its use by date. The quality of your produce will dictate the quality of your meals.
Slicers Mixers
Mixers, meat slicers, blenders, grinders, food cutters and even a portion scale are all essential parts of your kitchen and cooking habits. These are the items that are easily overlooked but make a huge difference to your ability to produce high quality food quickly for your customers.
Utensils
It goes without saying that you need a good range of utensils. Plates and crockery will be needed for serving the food to your customers while stirring spoons, scoops, ladles and the like will be needed to prepare and handle the food.
Serving Space
It is important to give yourself and your team enough space to serve the food and ensure it looks perfect before it is carried into the restaurant. It can be easy to overlook this but a couple of stainless steel countertops will make it much easier to get everything ready.
Dishwashing
I’ve already mentioned the dishwasher but you need to allow for the right equipment. A powerful dishwasher will allow you to get all your dishes and utensils clean ready to be used again. Without this you’ll struggle to have all the tools you need to hand to prepare the next dish.
It can also be a lifesaver at the end of the day when you’re tired and still need to clean the kitchen down.
Tables & Chairs
If you’re purchasing a place that already operated as a restaurant you may already have some of this equipment but it is important to check. After all, assuming you have tables and chairs is not the same as actually having them on opening night!
